Gram and pulse are rich in protein, and they are important food in our Indian vegetarian diet. Different types of gram has different types of proteins.

Gram is slightly tough to cook and requires more heat and pressure to cook. It is difficult in digestion and must be well cooked. Soaked dal takes less time to cook. Different spices added in recipes of dal makes it more tasty and helps in digestion. Added oil for tempering a dal preparation makes it rich and high in calories.

Dal is consumed with roti, paratha, bread, rice etc., which are full of carbohydrates. This combination makes a complete and balanced diet.

When cooking dal in a pressure cooker, the cooking time should be counted after full pressure in the cooker is achieved.
