Chola Dal with Coconut
Chola dal is a rich recipe with high calories and protein. Reduce quantity of chilies to make it less spicy, but this is a hot and spicy preparation.
Ingredients you will require :
Chola dal (bengal gram) : . 11/2 cup
Grated coconut (narial) : . . . 1 table spoon
Red whole chilies (lal mirchi) : . . . . . 4 to 5
Bay leaves : . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 to 4
Ginger paste (adrak) : . . . . . . 1 tea spoon
Green chilies (hari mirchi) : . . . . . . . . 5 to 6
Cloves (lavang) : . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 to 6
Cardamom (elichi) : . . . . . . . . . . . . 4 to 5
Cinnamon (dalchini) : . . . . . . . . . . 2 inches
Turmeric powder (haldi) : . . . 1 tea spoon
Cumin seed (jeera) : . . . . . . . 1 tea spoon
Garlic (lasoon) : . . . . . . . . . . . . 6 to 8
Red chili powder (lal mirchi) : . . . 1 tea spoon
Curd (dahi) : . . . . . . . . . . . 2 table spoon
Oil (tel) : . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 table spoon
Coriander leaves (hara dhania)
Salt (namak) to taste
Fry coconut in one table spoon oil and keep it aside. Now take three table spoon oil in pressure cooker and add red chilies, ginger, bay leaves, green chilies, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, turmeric powder and cumin seed. Cook for a minute and add fried coconut. Stir well and add chola dal. Mix it and then add 2 1/2 cups of water and salt. Pressure cook for eight to ten minutes.
Temper this preparation again with chopped garlic and red chili powder in one table spoon oil. Add curd and coriander leaves.
