Chola Bhatura





Chola bhatura is high in calories as bhatura is deep fried. It is a popular North Indian snack which can be taken as a main course. It is not very hot and if you want, then increase the quantity of chilies to make it hot.

Ingredients you will require :

For chola:

Chola (kabuli chana - chickpeas) : 250 gram

Turmeric powder (haldi) : . . . 1 tea spoon

Onion (pyaj) : . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 to 2

Ginger paste (adrak) : . . . . 1 table spoon

Garlic paste (lasoon) : . . . . 1 table spoon

Coriander powder (dhania) : 1 table spoon

Black pepper powder (kali mirchi) : 1 tea spoon

Red chili powder (lal mirchi) : . . . 1 tea spoon

Tomatoes (tamater) : . . . . . . . . 1 or 2

Oil (tel) : . . . . . . . . . 2 table spoon

Coriander leaves (hara dhania)

Salt (namak) to taste

For bhatura:

Maida (refined flour) : 500 gram

Curd (dahi) : . . . . . . . . . . . 150 gram

Sugar (shakkar) : . . . . . . 2 table spoon

Salt (namak) to taste

Soak chola in water for over night. Boil with turmeric and salt till done.

Heat oil and fry onion till just transparent. Add ginger garlic paste, coriander powder, black pepper powder, red chili powder and salt and fry for a minute. Add chopped tomatoes and chola and cook for five minutes.

Method for making bhatura:

Mix maida and curd. Add sugar and salt and knead to make dough. Let it stand for thirty to forty minutes.

Make round puries of about 6 inches and deep fry till light golden brown.
